Project Rationale: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the nation’s most common cause of death among women and men of all ethnic and racial groups. Good nutrition can help reduce occurrence of cardiovascular disease as well as the major risk factors including obesity, high blood pressure, and high blood cholesterol.
The purpose of this project is to develop a nutrition database tool. This tool will enable NHLBI web visitors to analyze their diet and compare it to heart healthy eating patterns aimed at reducing or preventing overweight/ obesity, high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol. The nutrient database will also support existing NHLBI web-based nutrition analysis tools that promote the awareness of heart-healthy eating.
