| Healthy People 2010 Primary Objective | 24-7. Increase the proportion of persons with asthma who receive appropriate asthma care according to the NAEPP guidelines. 24-6. Increase the proportion of persons with asthma who receive formal patient edcuation, including information about community and self-help resources as an essential part of the management of their condition. 24-4. Reduce activity limitations among persons with asthma. 24-5. Reduce the number of school or work days missed by persons with asthma due to asthma. |

| Project Objective(s) | To develop and conduct a needs assessment of child care centers to establish an action agenda for improving asthma management in child care settings. |
| Project Strategy | The first step is to conduct a needs assessment that will identify: key organizations and thought leaders in child care that the NAEPP should network and partner with; barriers to and effective strategies for improving asthma management in child care centers; materials or programs on asthma that are already available and being used; and, what types of materials and dissemination pathways are most useful to move child care centers toward taking recommended actions. Activities/Actions: 1. Identify the key stakeholders to contact for the needs assessment 2. Develop a set of "core quesitons" for the needs assessement based on the "How Asthma-Friendly is Your Child Care Setting Checklist" 3. Conduct the needs assessment by phone interview 4. Collate the data and develop conclusions 5. Develop a summary report that includes a set of action steps in response to the findings of the needs assessment |
| Performance Measures | Performance Measures: 1. Percentage of persons/organizations interviewed form the identified list. 2. Robustness of the list of needs and identified barriers. 3. Development of specific recommendaitons for a plan of action indicating activities most appropriate to be carried out by an individual organizaiton, by a partnership of organizations, and by the collective body fo the NAEPP. Performance Indicators: 1. Identify at least 3 needs that are priority issues. 2. Identify at least 2 barriers for which solutions can be developed. 3. Recommend 3-4 activities that organizations can implement, either individulaly or in partnership. 4. Recommend at least 2 activities that require the collective resources of the NAEPP. |
