| PACE enables physicians to improve treatment decisions and deliver asthma management counseling to patients. It gives strategies that are easy to incorporate into office practice and that impact the patient’s ability to retain and use advice from the physician. The 2-session, interactive, multi-media program teaches how to: - Employ the best current therapies for asthma
- Communicate effectively with patients to foster their practice of good asthma management
- Document, code, and improve asthma counseling reimbursement
Sessions cover classification, assessment, and stepwise treatment plans from the most recent version of Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma from the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program. They also offer opportunities for clinicians to discuss asthma cases and view videos on effective patient education techniques. In two rigorous studies, patients of participating PACE physicians had fewer days affected by asthma symptoms and fewer emergency room visits. PACE* was created by physicians and public health professionals at the University of Michigan Center for Managing Chronic Disease and their colleagues at Columbia University. |
