| Get Ready for Stay in Circulation Week September 15-19 Stay in Circulation Week is September 15-19, 2008, an annual observance to raise awareness of peripheral arterial disease (P.A.D.) and to foster community outreach and screening activities. Although P.A.D. affects one in 20 adults over age 50 in the U.S., an estimated 8 to 12 million persons, few people are aware when they have it. P.A.D. is caused by hardening of the arteries that reduces blood flow to the legs. The disease eventually leads to reduced mobility due to leg pain and cramping when walking. Having P.A.D. also raises the risk for heart attack and stroke. The good news is that it is easy to do something about P.A.D. Get started with the NHLBI materials below today! Spread the Word with the Community Action Toolkit To help you plan Stay in Circulation Week activities, the NHLBI offers the online Stay in Circulation Tool Kit. It has everything you need to get involved, including event ideas, a check list for hosting activities, and tips on how to work with the press to get publicity about P.A.D. or your P.A.D. event. Resources include sample press releases, newsletter articles, radio spots, print ads, posters, and educational artwork.
